Application for Graduation. In order to receive a degree, an undergraduate student must file an Application for Graduation to the appropriate dean's office, preferably during the first quarter of the senior year, but no later than the deadline set by the dean. See your school's undergraduate advising website for details. Graduate students should consult with the Graduate Division or their departmental graduate advisor on the applicable procedures.
Commencement. UCI Commencement ceremonies are held each June for all students who graduate any quarter of that academic year. Commencement protocol information is mailed to all prospective graduates in the spring and also is available from academic counselors. Additional information is available from the Commencement Office; telephone (949) 824-6378.
Posting of degrees and issuance of diplomas. Degrees are noted on official transcripts approximately six to seven weeks after the end of the quarter in which they are awarded. Students are advised by mail when their diplomas are available, which is three to four months after the quarter in which the student graduated. You may then pick up your diploma at the Registrar's Office or authorize the Registrar to send the diploma by certified mail, or registered air mail to locations outside the United States. There is a service charge of $7 for certified mail, $16 for registered air mail, payable to Regents-UC. To have your diploma mailed, send a written request to:
A replacement diploma may be requested if your original diploma has been lost or destroyed, or your name has changed since graduation. To obtain a replacement diploma you must complete and sign a Replacement Diploma Request Form and submit it with the required fees.
The NR (No Report) Grade Notation. An NR becomes an F or NP after one quarter of subsequent enrollment or at the end of the quarter immediately preceding award of the degree, whichever comes first (Academic Senate Regulation 345). Contact the instructor of the class about the possibility of removing the NR or replacing it with a grade.
All debts, with the exception of long-term financial aid loans, and/or financial holds must be cleared with Campus Billing Services before an official transcript or diploma may be released. Therefore, before leaving campus, graduating students should be sure to return all library materials, pay library fines, etc. Also, Financial Aid recipients are required to complete an exit interview before leaving campus. |
